Calis is a busy beach resort from May to October each year and the majority of the activities are found around the beach and resort centre. Here are just a few highlights:
Watch the Sunset: Tourists and locals from around Fethiye travel to Calis to enjoy the sunset, it’s truly spectacular! Park yourself in one of the many seafront restaurants or bars, order a drink and watch as the sun goes down across the bay and the sky changes from yellow and blue to shades of orange and red – amazing!
Catch a water taxi to Fethiye. To the side of the bridge taking you to the seafront you will find the water taxi terminal. With a large plastic turtle on the top, pay a few lira and catch a small boat across the bay to Fethiye harbour front. It takes around 30 minutes but is a really enjoyable trip and far more relaxed than catching the local minibus.
Sunday Market. The travelling open-air market heads to Calis square every Sunday. Located a 10 minute walk back from the seafront, it’s smaller than the Fethiye Tuesday Market but far less busy and you will still be able to haggle away for all your designer fakes, souvenirs and fresh groceries.
Windsurf or Kite Board. If you are feeling energetic then head off to the Surf Centre for a day windsurfing or kite boarding. Located at the far end of the beach, it runs courses and lessons at reasonable prices.
Eat, Drink and Party! Calis has a fabulous selection of restaurants and bars and many little places offering late night drinking and dancing. Explore the beach front and the back streets – you won’t struggle to find places to enjoy for a good night out on the town!
