Oludeniz
Picture yourself, drink in hand, kids safely playing in the shallow waters of a lagoon, soaking in the sun on one of the world’s top ten most beautiful and photographed beaches. Watch as paragliders soar like birds pulling crazy stunts in the sky above your head, and watch as the sun sets through shades of orange and red into the turquoise waters of the Turkish Med. The pretty bay of Oludeniz is quite simply stunning and one of Turkeys most popular and well-loved coastal resorts. With a wealth of hotels and many activities on offer, for many it’s the ideal location for a wonderful laid back holiday with an action packed twist!
Overlooked by impressive mountains, just a 5 minute drive or bus ride up the hill from Oludeniz beach and lagoon, is the hip and happening party town of Hisaronu. With no end of bars, restaurants, hotels and nightclubs and excellent transport links to the surrounding areas it’s the ideal location for all those wanting to lie back and relax during the day but get out and enjoy the entertainment of an evening.
Ovacik is peaceful. A stunning deep valley split by a road homing all manner of traditional restaurants, bars and hotels. Offering a welcome cooling breeze throughout the long hot summer months, magnificent views of the forests and mountains and great transport links to Oludeniz and Fethiye Town, it’s best suited to families, those wanting a quiet life yet wanting to dip into the main tourist resorts for some action, and all those looking for a great holiday without paying the beach premium.
Fethiye is a historically rich and fascinating harbour town, the main trading centre in the region and a bustling tourist resort in its own right. At first glance you can’t help but marvel at the location; pretty buildings set at the foot of hillside along a long café lined harbour front, the ruins of a fort and castle on the hill and floodlit Lycian rock tombs carved into the cliffs. Fethiye sits in a stunning bay with a large central island, a fascinating Old Town and no end of restaurants, bars, shops and boutiques to explore. Lively year round, it’s has a good selection of hotels and hostels but has no central beach as such. It will appeal to those looking for a taste of traditional life and willing to make use of the excellent transport links or simply wishing to soak in the culture of one of Turkeys most fascinating towns.
An hour from Fethiye, close to Dalaman International Airport is the growing resort and beach of Sarigerme. Packed full of luxury all-inclusives and home to the impressive Hilton Hotel, it is a relatively new tourist destination that has sprung up over recent years due to its fabulous sandy stretch of beach and wonderful views over the mountains and Mediterranean sea. If your idea of a holiday is simply to relax, get pampered, enjoy a wealth of modern hotel facilities and venture out on the occasional excursion, Sarigerme may well be ideal.
Just 10 minutes around the bay from Fethiye Town is the popular beach resort of Calis. With a seemingly endless beach, a nature reserve, kite-surfing centre and no end of wonderful restaurants, bars and hotels, it’s attracted European and British tourists for many years. Relatively flat in comparison to the other local resorts, it’s ideal for those looking for an easy life in the sun and ideal for anyone with mobility restrictions. Home to some of the best sunsets in the region, it’s a great location offering up some excellent hotel deals suited to most tastes and budgets.
